Science - Light

Xylophones have really enjoyed their science unit on light. The year six scientists have been involved in demonstrations about light traveling in straight lines by, for example, making a laser light visible. They understood how the human eye works and allows us to see objects. Internal reflection was observed and explained and the experimenters have investigated the effect of distance on shadows and the effect of the angle of incidence on the angle of reflection. Finally, they made periscopes using mirrors and tested their effectiveness. Some particularly keen physicists have even memorised the speed of light in a vacuum! It's 299,792,458 metres per second!
