Xylophones 2025-26

Hello everyone and welcome to Xylophone Class! We are a class of 29 motivated, enthusiastic learners led by Mrs. Forder and supported by Mrs Ng.

PE

PE, for this half term, will be on a Friday afternoon. Please make sure children come into school on this day in full TCP PE kit. Plain white, navy or black trainers, or pumps should be worn.

No jewellery or watches are to be worn during the PE lesson and long hair should be tied up for safety.

Homework:

Spelling

Each week, 10 spellings will be sent home for your child to learn. 5 of these are linked to the spelling rule we are working on, the other 5 are government statutory spellings. They will be assessed on these words every Friday. Some children may have a different set of spellings based on their own needs and will work with Mrs. Ng to embed these.

Their home spelling book (orange) should be brought into school every Friday so that new spellings for the following week can be stuck in.

Reading

All children will have a colour-banded reading book and a school library book. In Year 6, the expectation is that children read at least 3 times a week outside school. This should be recorded in their reading record and signed by an adult at home. Children should read a range of material including their colour-banded book (which should be changed regularly when finished), their library book and any other books that they have at home. This is to encourage exposure to a wide range of texts and writing styles.

Reading Records should be handed in each Friday to be monitored.

Other Homework - Occasionally other homework such as handwriting practice will be sent home. Times Tables should be regularly practised outside school - Times Table Rockstars can be used to support this. In the Spring Term, revision homework for SATS will also be set and completed regularly. There will be more information regarding this nearer the time.

Thank you, as always, for your support. A good relationship between school and home will help to support your child getting the best from their time in Year 6.
