Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at TCP

The curriculum for Tiny Treasures (Nursery Class) and Violins (Reception Class) is rooted in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and supports children’s learning across all seven areas of learning and development.

We place a strong emphasis on the three prime areas:

  • Communication and Language – developing children’s listening, attention, understanding, and speaking through meaningful interactions and play

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development – supporting children to build relationships, manage emotions, and develop confidence and independence

  • Physical Development – promoting gross and fine motor skills, healthy lifestyles, and self-care

These prime areas provide the foundation for learning in the four specific areas:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Learning is play-based and carefully planned using Development Matters and Early Years Outcomes to ensure activities are purposeful and responsive to children’s interests. Ongoing assessment informs next steps, enabling practitioners to provide appropriate challenge and support so that every child can thrive.

Development Matters

Statutory Framework for the EYFS

We work together to provide a coherent and progressive EYFS curriculum. Children are supported from their individual starting points through play, exploration, and carefully planned adult interaction, ensuring a smooth transition between stages and a strong foundation for future learning.
