WELCOME TO TROMBONES CLASS

We are a group of twenty six fantastic, highly motivated pupils, who work together to help each other make the most of our time in school.  We make our teacher, Mrs Barnes, very proud with our wonderful manners and positive attitudes to learning and we always try to have a Growth Mindset. If we find something difficult, our motto is, “I can’t do that ... YET.”  We are helped every day by our wonderful support assistants, Mrs Ng and Mrs Moores and are lucky enough to be learning French with Mrs Darby.  Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Spring 2: Super Sleuth!

This half term's theme is SUPER SLEUTH! We will be using our skills as a History detective to find out more about life in Anglo-Saxon times. Who were the vikings? What happened in 1066? In Science we will be classifying living things and, using Linnean Classification, sort living things into categories.

In English, we are continuing our study of Macbeth and using what we have learnt to write a mixed genre information booklet to answer the question 'Was Macbeth The Most Villainous Villain Of All Time?' Our class novel this half term is The Hound Of The Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and we will be using this to write our own detective story set in a well known fairy tale.

  • The Mystery Of The Missing Porridge
  • The Case Of The Poisoned Apple
  • Humpty Dumpty: Did he fall or was he pushed?
  • The Tale Of The Disappearing Grandma

PE is Outdoor & Adventurous Activities on a Monday and Wednesday. Please bring in wellies or old trainers and a spare pair of socks as we may get muddy.

ICT sees the children creating a text adventure and in RE we are looking once again at Christianity.

Science

In science this half term we have been looking at the different systems in our bodies and how they work. We started by looking at our lungs and how they help us take the oxygen we breath in and the carbon dioxide back out. Then, we looked at how our hearts help to transport the oxygen around our bodies in our blood. We even got to listen to our hearts. Finally, we drew around our bodies and then drew where our organs would be and explained how they work.

Safer Internet Day 2020

We have been investigating 'identity' and how our online identity may differ to our real ones.We discussed how we can choose what we want to share about ourselves online and how we can also protect ourselves. We also made a web while we looked at how we are all connected to each other online and it became quite a tangle, we are connected in lots of ways! Finally, we made an image each of how we are '#free to be...' on the internet.

ANOTHER BUSY COUPLE OF WEEKS

In Maths we have been working on our addition and subtraction skills and analysing data in line graphs, tables, two-way tables and timetables.  In English we have written our own songs based on lyrics by Bob Dylan and John Lennon. We set our lyrics to the tune of What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong and added our own instruments to accompany our voices.  Mrs Smith was very impressed with our singing and songwriting.

In PE we are creating our own version of the Hakka, a tribal war dance, which can often be seen being performed by the New Zealand rugby team before a match.  We have had great fun coming up with our own moves, sounds and scary faces!

We were lucky enough to have a visit from a paralympian wheelchair rugby player, who put us through our paces with a very intense fitness session.  We then continued our fitness theme when we completed our sponsored obstacle course, organised by our School Council.  In the process, we helped to raise a massive £574 for the NSPCC.  We have been busy!

STRAWPIONS

In our Art and DT lessons we have been designing and making Strawpions. These are creatures that are adapted to living in their habitat by using camouflage. First we chose a habitat for our strawpion to live in. The we designed the shape and size of its body. Next, we thought about how we should decorate our creature, in order to make it camouflage effectively into its environment. We all worked really hard and had lots of fun. Some Strawpions were so well camouflaged, we struggled to see them when they were placed in their habitats. How many can you spot?

Human Evolution

We have been learning about human evolution. We lined up in height order to illustrate how the size and characteristics of humans have changed over time.

Hello Yellow - World Mental Health Day

We have been learning that our mental health is just as important as our physical health and that everybody suffers from poor mental health sometimes. We talked about ways in which we could look after ourselves and how we could help ourselves and others if we were feeling low.  We have created some bunting to hang around our classroom, which contains tips for improving mental health and also lots of pictures of things which make us happy. We have also made a Wellbeing Advent Calendar.  Behind each door is a fun activity, which we will do together to help boost our mood during the festive season.

Online Safety Visit

This morning Y5 at TCP were visited by two PCSOs who gave a presentation on e-Safety. They discussed rules for staying safe online and making sure the children knew where to go when they had troubles online. They also gave some background into WHY it is important to keep our personal information to ourselves by showing a couple of videos to the children. Thank you to them!

Brilliant Biographies

We have finally finished editing and writing our biographies up in best.  We have put a lot of effort into writing them and are sure you will enjoy reading them at Parents’ Evening.

Another Busy Week

This week in our PE lessons, we have been learning how to attack and defend and how to make different types of passes.  We have also been developing our teamwork skills and resilience.  We rounded the week off with a nice, relaxing Yoga session. In RE, we have been learning about the Hindu festival of Holi, which is a celebration of spring and new life. We had fun making Holi cards by flicking brightly-coloured paint.

Our First Week Back

We have had a very busy, fun-filled first week back at school.  During our fantastic Science Day, we found out about and made crystals, made ice-cream out of liquid nitrogen, observed and collected plants and listened to an amazing assembly by our visiting chemist from Salford University.  We all dressed up in our Science themed costumes and looked great.  In Maths we have been using matchsticks to make Roman Numerals and in English we have been learning about the features of biographies.  What a busy week!
