Welcome to Tiny Treasures

The Tiny Treasures are the youngest class in our school. We are a group of 36, three and 4 year old's who love to play and have fun. We learn the most when we are following our own interests and leading our own learning- play is serious business!

In our class you will meet our teacher, Mrs Rowcroft and our wonderful teaching assistants Mrs Cross, Miss Latham, Mrs Cookson and Ms Lear.

Tiny Treasures have had the best time at Forest School! We have climbed, rolled, jumped and ran. We also made mud hedgehogs, blew bubbles, played in the mud kitchen and the tunnels. What a lot of fun!

Sports Day 2023

We have had the best afternoon enjoying lots of sporty races. We have done the egg and spoon, the teddy bear toss and a beanbag collection race. We we all superstars and were delighted with our competitor medals!

Windmill Farm Trip

We went to visit Windmill Farm. We met goats, sheep, cows, donkeys and a giant tortoise around the farm. In the reptile house we met some snakes, a lizard and a tarantula. We were also excited to go on a train ride and play on the park too.

Fun Day at Lostock Hall

We were very excited to go on an adventure on a coach! We went to Lostock Hall Primary School and were welcomed by their children and teachers. We played in their make believe room, their classroom , their outdoor area and on their school field. We enjoyed a picnic and a dance in the school hall to GoNoodle. We had the best day!

The Coronation of King Charles III

We were very excited to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. We all used pointillism to create a crown on a canvas for our art gallery. We also learnt a song called Sing for the King and the national anthem. We also enjoyed a coronation picnic.

Caterpillars!

We are very excited that our very own caterpillars have arrived! We are going to watch them grow and release them when they turn into butterflies. One of our favourite stories is The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Easter Egg Hunt

On the last day of the Spring Term, the children in EYFS were very excited to get an email from the Easter Bunny! He has hidden chocolate eggs in our garden! We had such fun finding them, and were all delighted to take home some of our chocolatey treasure.

Science Week

During Science Week, we were very excited to meet a real-life scientist! He showed us how to turn still water fizzy, and how to make ice cream. It was delicious.

We have also carried out some experiments of our own. We have rolled tins down a ramp to try and identify what was inside them. We found the solid item (dog food) rolled the furthest. The liquid (condensed milk), didn't roll very far at all. We also looked at features of animals and matched pictures to create each animal. We used the investigation box in the garden and used binoculars, magnets and magnifying glasses. Our final experiment was to do with our senses. We wore blindfolds and then tried to identify items using just our sense of smell. This as very tricky but we identified chocolate, coffee and flowers correctly.

Our Solar System

We have been busy bees creating our very own solar system in our classroom! We have all had a turn to paint the planets. Once painted, we have hung them up in the order they are from the sun. We have been enjoying learning about the planets and singing a fun song to help us remember some interesting facts. If you would like to watch the video, you can find it here: The Solar System Song - YouTube

World Book Day

On Thursday 2nd March, we celebrated World Book Day. We looked at a wonderful book called The Word Collector. We then thought about our favourite words. We love the words squishy, roly-poly and macaroni.

We listened to lots of stories throughout the day and wore our cozy pyjamas. In the afternoon, our grown-ups came into school and shared stories and hot chocolate with us. What a wonderful day!

PSHE-Keeping Healthy

In our PSHE lessons this half term, we are focusing on keeping our bodies healthy. We have enjoyed the opportunity to taste a variety of healthy foods including blueberries, cheese, grapes, apple, pear and mango.

Pancake Day

We designed our perfect pancake in the morning. We talked about the toppings we might like and then drew a picture to represent this. In the afternoon, we added our prefered topping to our pancake. The best bit was eating them! Delicious!

Friends of TCP also came to visit us and we had the opportunity to flip a pancake!

Fire Engine Visit

We were super lucky and excited that the fire engine visiting Year 1 had time for us to have a little look too! We all had a turn to climb into the fire engine and to ask any questions of the fire fighters. The engine was very big and the siren was so loud.

Flapjack

In maths, we have looked at number 1 this week. We made flapjacks using a recipe of 1 spoonful of each ingredient. We added 1 spoon of oats, sugar, butter and syrup. The best part was eating them, they were delicious!

Bubble Wrap Dragons

Our new topic is Dragons, Castles and Knights. We have created some dragons by painting bubble wrap and then pressing it onto a dragon template. We then added facial features to our creations. We had lots of fun!

Festive Fun!

We have thoroughly enjoyed the build up to Christmas throughout December. We have performed in our very own nativity, Angel Express, held our Christmas Fair and had a Christmas party. We danced the day away, played musical bumps and festive corners. We had a very special visitor too- Father Christmas came to see us!

Enterprise Week

For Enterprise this year, we have decided to create some wooden tree decorations and some clay pots which can be used as tea light holders. The children have enjoyed shaping the clay and then painting their pots. We have used felt tipped pens and glitter on our decorations. We hope the Mummies and Daddies love our creations!

Maths - Sorting

During our math's sessions, we have been sorting items in lots of ways. We sorted by shape and ignored size- this was quite tricky but we were super at it! We also sorted into sets of cubes and 'not cubes'. We have all worked really hard on these activities and are super sorters!

Windy Day Fun

As the weather has started to become a little chilly now the Winter is upon us, we we have enjoyed investigating the windy day resources. We have twirled ribbons making large circles, watched them blowing around in the wind and chased handkerchiefs around in the breeze. Windy days are fun!

Remembrance

During Remembrance week, we have done lots of poppy related crafts. We created a banner with the Reception children and decorated delicious biscuits. We also watched a CBeebies film called Poppies. It is a lovely animation about Remembrance, it is very child friendly.

Nursery Rhymes

In Tiny Treasureswe sing lots of nursery rhymes! We have made some characters from some of our favourite rhymes this week. We made Incy Wincy Spider, rockets to zoom to the moon and Baa Baa Black Sheep.

Happy Halloween!

We have read the story of Funny Bones and danced to the song "Them Bones". We created our own spooky skeletons using glue and cotton buds. We made some amazing pictures.

Countryfile Ramble

The children in EYFS have taken part in a Ramble to Carr Lane Woods in aid of Children in Need. We had a great time climbing trees, collecting sticks and looking for the Gruffalo!

Listening Ears

As part of our phase 1 phonics, we have made listening ears. Once we had made them, we went on a walk around school and into our garden. We realised that to listen well, you have to be very quiet! We heard cars, an ambulance, birds, wind in the trees, singing and talking. The ladies in the kitchen also made lots of noise with the shutters!

Our Families

As part of our topic work, we have used the family counters to build our families. We have spoken about the grown ups we live with, any siblings and even any pets! We were very proud to talk about out families and who lives in our house.

Yoga

In PE, we have had a go at yoga. We went on a Bear Hunt Adventure! We learnt the special yoga codeword- Namaste, and learnt to hold our hands in front of our heart as we say it. The children did some super yoga poses and the grown ups were very impressed!

Dressing up

While the weather has been quite warm, we have had lots off fun dressing up. We have been princesses, super heroes, knights and dragons. The children have shown excellent independence and resilience skills while putting on the costumes.

Settling in to School Life

We have had a great first week settling into school life. We have made friends, learnt the routine of school and played lots! We hope you like the photos of the fun we have had!

Queen Elizabeth II

The staff in Early Years were saddened to learn of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. We wanted to commemorate her wonderful life in a way that was appropriate for the age and level of understanding of our children. Every child and adult made a handprint in red, white or blue. We used these to frame a beautiful portrait of the Queen and then displayed it proudly in the school entrance.
