Welcome To Xylophones
Welcome to Xylophones Class. We are a mixed Year 5 & 6 group of 28 enthusiastic, motivated and resilient learners with a great attitude to achievement. Our teacher is Mrs. Forder and we are helped by Mrs. Ng and Mrs. Moores. Mrs. Higson also teaches us Computing and Art on a Wednesday afternoon.
Our days for PE are Tuesday and Friday when we need to come in our PE kits.
Our homework expectations are learning our weekly spellings, reading at least 3 times a week and Times Tables Rock Stars.
We are all really excited about the responsibilities that being in Year 6 brings - such as taking on the role as a prefect and house team captain. We are TCP's behaviour role models and we are always ready to rise to any challenge!
Block 3: Amazon Adventure
Our next block of learning is called Amazon Adventure! We will be learning about the rain forest, printing and collaging and animal and plant life cycles.
Please find the knowledge organiser for Amazon Adventure below.
Paralympic Games
The children in Xylophones were humbled today learning some Paralympic Games in our festival led by South Ribble. This was a brilliant opportunity for the children to learn new age Kurling, Boccia and goal ball. The games were trickier as they were wearing a blindfold to try and save the goal, and sat down when playing Boccia. Great fun with a meaningful message.
No Outsiders @ TCP
For No Outsiders this week, Xylophones have read "The Whisperer" by Nick Butterworth. This is a story about discrimination and difference. Following discussion, we created posters to display how the things that make us similar are more important than the things that set us apart.
TCP On Tour
What an amazing time UKS2 had in Belgium. Here's a picture of us all at the Menin Gate after watching the nightly Last Post.
Block 2: The Golden Age
Block 2 sees us journey back in time to the Islamic Golden Age.
In this unit of work we will look at the history of the Islamic Empire, study Baghdad in our geography lessons and look at cams and pulleys (linked to the inventions of the golden age) in our design & technology lessons.
Please find the knowledge organiser for The Golden Age below.
Remembrance Week
For Remembrance Week 2022, Xylophone Class focused on the code breakers of World War Two. We studied how the Enigma Code gave the Axis powers the upper hand until Alan Turing invented his 'Bombe' that could decipher the hidden messages, changing the course of the war. We also learned about how Alan Turing was convicted of being gay (which was illegal until 1967) and how we felt about that given that he saved an estimated fourteen million lives and shortened the war by up to two years.

Enterprise Week
For Enterprise Week, Xylophones were visited by Dave Birkbeck and the team from GBA. They took us through the process of setting up a business and the important aspects to remember once it is up and running. We then played a logistics game and some of us even won prizes! Following this, we returned to our classes to begin work on our own companies ready for the Christmas Fayre!
We used all the information we learned from our morning with GBA to set up our own company called Festive Friendships selling friendship bracelet keyrings to sell at our Christmas Fayre.
Block 1: The Final Frontier
Our first theme this year is all about space, abstract art and the work of the Composer John Williams! We cannot wait to get stuck into our learning. Please check out the knowledge organiser for this unit below and keep your eyes peeled for more of our work as we go through this unit!

Trip to Jodrell Bank
What a wonderful day at Jodrell Bank for our Upper Key Stage 2 classes! We had a great time in the space dome learning all about our solar system, exploring the history of Jodrell Bank and learning more about telescopes and rockets!
Hello Yellow
Xylophone class helped to raise a fantastic £169 for youngminds.org.uk with our Hello Yellow day. The children all had lots of fun and looked happy in their yellow!
Forest School
It is currently Xylophones turn enjoying Forest School's after school club. They had lots of fun despite the rain. The children worked collaboratively as a team and created a natural collage spelling TCP! We even spotted a heron visiting our pond! They are looking forward to the rest of their sessions.
